Recently my uncle has been diagnosed with a sugar level of 115 mg/DL when fasting and 170 mg/DL after eating. He started to cut off rice and all fruits. Is that necessary? What kind of diet do you suggest?

Hello, Thanks for the query. Blood glucose level fasting 115 mg & Pp 170 mg/100 ml is actually considered as pre-diabetes. What is the HbA1c%? Is there any treatment suggested? Usually for pre-diabetes no treatment is given, except diet control and regular exercise plus weight control. It is necessary to avoid sweets, junk foods, pastries, deep fried foods, bakery items and foods made from maida. Plus one should refrain from colas. There is no need to stop fruits and rice. No one recommends that. One may reduce white rice intake by some percentage. All fruits are good but a few like banana, mango, grapes and chikkoo need to be restricted. Everything in moderation is fine. Thanks. Â
