PSA of 5.9 in itself does not make a diagnosis of prostate cancer. However, it is higher than normal range and needs to be assessed further to rule out prostate cancer. You should get your father checked further to make sure that there is no prostate cancer.

Cancer cannot be told definitely. Just a PSA of 5.9 DOES NOT mean cancer !!! It needs to be correlated with symptoms, signs ,etc. It may be raised in prostatitis as well commonly seen with BHP. Please proceed systematically under your doctor's guidance !
