85 year old senior three weeks post op for knee replacement surgery gets lower back pain to one side. While sleeping and turning pain as well as while getting up from sleeping to sitting to standing position. Sometimes he stops midair due to pain holding on to support then gets back up. Is it due to anesthesia and what can be done to get rid of it or reduce it?

Hello Dr. From what history you have given it looks more like a back muscle spasm, most likely due to bad position while sleeping or sitting or may be the matters might have worn out. In any which case spinal anaesthesia will not be the cause of back pain. Muscle relaxant with NSAID will help with the pain and muscle spasm.
