The ulcers are a common side effect of ahead and neck radiation. See the Radia oncologist who is giving the radiation. They would prescribe medications for the oral ulcers and also give lignocaine viscous if severe. If the ulcers are not tolerable, they may consider a break in the radiation. Continue the swallowing and the mouth opening exercises throughout the radiation. As good diet helps to tolerate radiation well. If oral intake is poor they may consider a nasogastric tube or rarely a feeding gastrostomy.
