My mother is 55 years old. We are using Espazine 3 tablets (5 mg each) and Pacitane 1 tablet (1 mg) per day for Schizophrenia as suggested by Psychiatrist long back. Since 20 years we are using the same medication. We just want to know what will happen if we completely stop using Espazine tablets?

Dear lybrate-user, You don't know what were the difficulty with your mother 20 years back. Find out that from your father or grandparents. There might have been few symptoms like hearing voices, talking to self, suspicious about people around, mostly withdrawn and not mixing up with people, not having clean habits like bath, brushing, etc. If you stop using Espazine, Kumari may get back these symptoms, may not be immediately, may be gradually over months. After relapsing, sometimes the same medicine and 15 mg/day may not work. What is the reason for you to stop medicines - any side effect or cost or any other reason? Please discuss with a psychiatrist now and decide. In the last 20 years, second generation antipsychotics have come up with more effectiveness and less side effect.
