As she is thalassemic, so I think, she is receiving regular blood transfusion. The direct coombs test may become positive in many situations and treatment is completely different for those. First the test may give false positive report, if done within 3 weeks of last transfusion. If it is true positive, then we need to do indirect coombs test with specific card (3 card or 11 card) to know whether it is auto immune or allo immune in nature.
