Yes, you are definitely carrying a genetic predisposition to bipolar disorder. You must live a stress free life, handle your emotions well particularly anger. You need to eat healthily, get a good night's sleep, be disciplined, exercise regularly and have a good social life. Just because you don't have symptoms as yet, it does not mean you are free from succumbing to it.

Dear lybrate-user, There are chances of you developing bipolar disorder at any time. Only the predisposition is genetic - not the disorder itself. If you are obese, reduce and keep a BMI of 24. Try and develop resilience in every aspect of your life. Try and develop some destressing methods now itself so that whenever you face stress, you may be able to relax. Don't get married to any of your cousins or other relatives of your father's side. Of course, God forbid, if you develop early warning signs, please contact a psychiatrist immediately. Inform one of your friends or mother to take you to psychiatrist, when necessary though you want to wait during the manic phase.
