MPV stands for mean platelet volume. Platelets are small blood cells that are essential for blood clotting, the process that helps you stop bleeding after an injury. An MPV blood test measures the average size of your platelets. The normal range for platelets (this can vary some between labs) is 150,000 to 450,000 per milliliter. Platelet volume indices, estimated by automated blood cell analyzers, are useful in the diagnosis of various conditions with abnormal platelet counts. P-LCR was inversely related to platelet count and directly related to PDW and MPV. The PDW median was 13.3%, with a reference range of 10.0%-17.9%
