Namaste Dr. I am 68 years old male. Height 162 cms wt 60 kg .taking Concor cor 2.5 and ecosprin AV 75 daily at night as per the advice of cardiologist. I also take Roliflo OD 2 mg for BPH. One and half month back I felt pain in my left leg below the knee for about 5 inches towards ankle. The pain was on the inner part of the leg. With home remedies as I was not having any relief I consulted an ortho at Guruvayur on 8th of this month and he prescribed Tolmove SR at night Rugbi twice a day carnitine E twice a day and one ointment. With this I was almost recovered. On 15th I returned to Mumbai. I lifted my 2 suitcases from cab to my first floor flat. I did not feel any discomfort. Next day on 16 th I purchased 5 kg atta and walking home Midway I was in on terrible pain. I was unable to move. Some how I managed to get into a auto and reached home without taking atta. My house was just 100 meters away from where I hired auto. Since pain was severe we consulted an ortho in Mumbai and he advised Nexpro 20 and NurokindLC at night and nice gel. He also given me an injection on 16th night. Now I am about 70 % better. Now there is a mild pain in the buttock also Dr. has prescribed the medicine for 15 days so it wil last up to 1st of December. Prior to this incident, I was regularly going for morning walk and yoga 5 days a week for one and hour Yoga included Surya namaskar, spot jogging etc. I was doing it without any problem. So I would like to know what care I should take henceforth to avoid recurrence of the pain after recovery. Why the pain happened on 16th after it has almost subsided? Was if because of the lifting of weight? After recovery can I go for morning walk and attend yoga class as I was doing earlier? Am I not supposed to lift any weight hereafter? I am Retired DGM from MTNL I seek your valuable advice. Thanks Dr.

Your Symptoms are an indication of Acute Disc Prolapse, you will require an MRI of the back to confirm the diagnosis. Since the pain started in the calf area, you will have to rule out deep vein thrombosis by doing a Doppler test. If the pain is due to Disc prolapse, than one could prevent recurance of the pain by taking proper Back School Programme.
