Blood and Bone Marrow. The peripheral smear in ET shows marked thrombocytosis with a significant size variation (anisocytosis) of the platelets. Red blood cells are normocytic and normochromic, except in patients with significant hemorrhage and iron deficiency, in which case they may be hypochromic and microcytic.
