My wife age 39 yrs. Old is suffering from acute pancreatitis since long as such she suffering from diabetes and taking medicine for 8 years. For pancreatitis she is taking qurozyme tablets as prescribed by gastroenterologist. Now the doctor suggest to take antoxid in place qurozyme. My question you is both medicine same and can give similar benefit? My second question is pancreatic diabetes is controlled by diabetes medicine. As per latest blood report her amylase-100 and lipase 120.

Hi, lybrate-user. Pancreatitis is called acute only if it is for short duration. Hence I think she must be suffering from chronic pancreatitis (longer duration).in this condition, the 2 type of secretion from pancreas decrease very much. 1. Insulin - this causes diabetes and may require insulin injections in the long run 2. Digestive enzymes - this help in digestion and hence require lifelong supplement. Now, coming to anti oxidants ,they are usually effective in early stages to decrease the damage to pancreas due to this disease and maintain secretion. If already damage is done, may not help much.
