My sugar level was 121 (fasting) and 266 (pp) on sunday the 24th feb. I take lantus 25 units daily post dinner daily. Beside I take orally 1 gm metformin bd after meals in morning and dinner. Medicines prescribed earlier with glimepiride, lingaplitin was causing skin rashes/ allergy causing itching had to be discontinued. Metformin is causing joint knee pains making it difficult to walk. I s there any other medicine that need to be replace metformin now.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. Usually metformin is very well tolerated. Often seen side effect include gastrointestinal disturbances, which reduce on taking the drug after food. Pain in knee joints is unusual. However, since you have that, one may have to some other options which could include sglt - 2 inhibitors along with insulin. Equally important is to look at your dietary pattern and extent of physical activity. Thanks.
