My mother is 50 years old according to the gynaecologist she is in her perimenopause phase and she is undergoing a treatment where the gynaecologist has fitted an iud called mirena 1 year back as she was suffering very heavy bleeding but the device is still inside and the doctor has said it would be kept there for more 5 years. Would mirena not have any side effect?

If she is still having periods, there is no harm in continuing with mirena. She can be given some health supplements to tide over this phase.
