HI, I had a blood splash in the eye during a surgery and I didn't rinse the eye with water. And so I checked the patients report for hiv/hepatitis and it was non reactive. But I am scared because what if the patient was in the window period of hiv? Is there a possibility? And does the amount of blood splash determine the transmission of the infection? Because only a small drop splashed in my eye. So I am scared.

Dear user. Hiv spread through contact between broken skin, wounds, or mucous membranes and hiv-infected blood or blood-contaminated body fluids. Deep, open-mouth kissing if both partners have sores or bleeding gums and blood from the hiv-positive partner gets into the bloodstream of the hiv-negative partner. Hiv can not spread through saliva. Take care.
