I'm 42 years old female. During the 5th month of my pregnancy hypothyroidism was detected and since then I am taking eltroxin 50 mcg for the last 10 years. I had a normal delivery. I have been regularly checking my thyroid profile and till this january 2019, it has been always normal. This time it showed 5.8 -tsh. Since 2-3 months my periods are also irregular. Either 6-7 days early or late. Now, this month it's been 8 days delay, still periods have not come. I'm not pregnant. Kindly suggest whom should I consult. What could be the reason, is it an early sign of early menopause.?

You have to increase your dose of eltroxin to 62.5 microgram. After 20 days of taking this dose, you must investigate your tsh again so as to regulate the dose. Start taking syp. Amycordial 10 ml thrice daily also which can balance your hormones at an extent.

Don't get worried. There are my reasons of delayed periods. Stress, anxiety, pcos, sudden weight gain, thyroid dysfunction, increased prolactin hormone are some of the common causes. Often after 40 years of age, periods become irregular. Wait till 2 weeks beyond your expected date of periods, than rule out pregnancy once more, if not pregnant, get some basic investigations done: usg lower abdomen blood for tsh, prl and fsh meanwhile increase the dose of eltroxin to 62.5 as it is preferable to keep tsh less than 4.
