There was news by cdc (usa) that there had been hiv transmission in infants via chewed food from their caretaker who were hiv positive. In this regard pl explain if we are sharing sandwich, burger, salad etc with hiv infected person having bleeding gums, cuts etc in his mouth amd my oral hygiene is bad ie having oral ulcer, bleeding gums etc. So if blood mixed food and bite is taken by me after he takes (repeatedly) so there can be blood to blood exchange. I am worried that can hiv transmission takes place this manner. Pl explain. Thanks.

Hiv cannot transmit through food stained with hiv blood and only if blood is directly coming into contract with ulcers or injury is there a chance and not by eating food mixed with blood .furthermore, according to the world health organization (who), hiv cannot be transmitted by water or food. In fact, hiv does not live long outside the human body. Even if the food contained small amounts of hiv-infected blood or semen, exposure to the air, heat from cooking, and stomach acid would destroy the virus. Based on the current scientific evidence, who and the u.s. Centers for disease control and prevention (cdc) are of the opinion that food is not a source of hiv infection.
