My father is 80 years of age, has enlarged prostate and had been taking urimax d for the last 4 years. My question is whether it is safe to continue the medication for more than 4 years? My other question is will the earlier condition of enlarged prostate return if he discontinues the medication and whether it is safe to continue with the medicine for a period of more than 4 years?

Its safe to take it. If the symptoms recurs after stopping the medication then you have 2 options, either to continue with the same medicine or opt for surgical alternative.

You can get fresh evaluation of his uroflowmetry and usg kub with pvr, with serum psa. If he is voiding well with urimax d, he may omit the "d" (dutasteride) part of the medication, and only continue with urimax, it is relatively safe. His urine voiding problem might return if he stops using urimax.
