All fruits are generally fine for gout. Cherries may even help prevent attacks by lowering uric acid levels and reducing inflammation (23, 24). Vegetables: all vegetables are fine, including potatoes, peas, mushrooms, eggplants and dark green leafy vegetables. Gout occurs when urate crystals accumulate in your joint, causing the inflammation and intense pain of a gout attack. Urate crystals can form when you have high levels of uric acid in your blood. But sometimes either your body produces too much uric acid or your kidneys excrete too little uric acid.
