I am married for 7 years. I have a 4+ year old daughter. I stay with my in-laws (since 5 years). I have some trival issues on and off with my mil, who is a very dominating lady. She wants all things to be her way, she will keep on cribbing about her past and play blame games. May be she is not bad by heart but her nature is very manipulative, outspoken and rude all at a time. I get very hyper with her behaviour and it all boils out on 1 day very badly. This happens once every year when I have my outburst on her. My patience n tolerance comes to an end and I bluntly say stuff to her. This time I requested to separate from them and now we have shifted our room downstairs, but kitchen is still upstairs. I am still losing my control on my anger, what do I do for best results.

Dear, thanks for your query. I can understand what does it feel like to keep getting dominating, it'll be not fair to tell you to avoid her so the best solution can be. 1. Speak to her one on one, if not then 2. Try to escape her presence and join some part-time work. It'll help you in keeping your own self distracted from her 3. You can choose to separate your kitchen as well. I hope this help, let me know if I could be of any help.

Hi lybrate-user, in a situation like this regular counselling sessions would be more effective to help long term coping and managing with such situation. Cbt and positive psychology can really help in such situations. Also talking to a counsellor will help as it will reduce the amount of pent up energy and anger and therefore reduces the chances of an outburst. You can't change another persons reaction but a counsellor can help you understand your current reactions and patterns and help in changing them to enable more harmony and anger control. For a more short term fix ayurvedic medicine such as ashwagandha helps calm the nerves and reduce stress. As much as I would like to help you in one paragraph it's not always easy as some goals require long term intervention.
