I have sharp pain in the right side of the neck, shoulder and upper back. Can?t move my neck to the right as it pains on doing so. On lying down without pillow, finding difficulty in lifting my head due to the sharp pain. It?s been 2 days. Have applied warm compresses and moov cream but they provide temporary relief. Major pain is just below the neck at the back. I exercise at the gym and am used to lifting weights. However, this pain has happened for the first time. It started yesterday on getting up from sleep (2 days after I visited the gym).

Dear lybrate-user, you seem to have a cervical disc lesion. Kindly consult orthopaedic surgeon/spine surgeon, have x-ray done of cervical spine ap and lateral. Always use pillow made of cotton (no recon pillows) of correct size or you can use cervical pillow. Medicines, injections and type of physiotherapy will be advised by orthopaedic surgeon. At present avoid exercises/gym and give rest to your neck. If necessary your doctor may advise mri of cervical spine.

May be you did dead lifts in gym caused muscle cramps, these worsen with lying continuously. What you need to do first reduce pain with pain killer maintain neutral position of neck by using collar. Practice neck stretching exercises.
