I am a 25 years old hiv+ breastfeeding mother but my baby was prescribed to nevimune syrup. On the box there is a note "it should be used within one month of opening" he is now 6 weeks. Should I continue giving it to him?

Hello madam. In general, for nivaripine (nvp) prophylaxis, please see below. Please see your query is not clear, so giving general recommendation as given by world health org. Daily nevi rapine can be stopped when the infant is 6 weeks old even in breastfed infants if the mother was on lifelong arv treatment for at least 6 weeks prior to delivery.in breastfed infants of hiv positive mothers who are not on arv treatment, prophylactic nvp should be continued until 1 week after the last feed. Now about instruction in the medicine bottle- this is from manuf, for users, usually to see that potency of drug is maintained for that period. I would advice follow drug manf advice for using it for 4 weeks even if some left. But for how long to use nvp kindly see general reco above. Please do consult your art provider, he knows best about your trt. Thanks for your query.
