I am taking oleanz 10 mg, lonazep 2 mg for my depression since last 10 years. Due to this I am having constipation. Whay should I do? I am not able to function normally. Please advise me.

Olanzapine which is the chemical name of the brand oleanz 10 mg is usually associated with constipation, especially in those who do not drink enough water during the day and also those who do not eat a diet rich in fiber content, e.g. Fruits and vegetables. Bulk forming agents like docusate can be helpful and so can laxatives like psyllium. Oleanz is ok, but lonazep in such high dose for years together is not advisable as it is a benzodiazepine and may carry unwanted side effects. Discuss with your psychiatrist and take sedative, non addictive medications and for constipation there are also non addictive ways to overcome, which your psychiatrist will tell.
