The hepatitis c (hcv) window period is typically 6 to 9 weeks from the moment the person became infected. During this time, a hepatitis c antibody test may bring up a negative result acute hepatitis b is diagnosed by detecting hbsag and igm core antibody, or core antibody alone, in the window period. Igm core antibodies are lost within 6 to 12 months of the onset of illness.
