My doctor advised me to take pantop d and I have to take it daily once or twice and before food or after food. Please help me out doctor. And one more question is pep is necessary to take even when there is a low risk of hiv transmission? When should I go for testing for hiv? Another doctor asked me to go for testing first before using pep. But pep is to be used within 72 hours of exposure so I started taking. What should I do I should continue or leave it?

Hello. There is a well written protocol to follow for giving pep for hiv. The Dr. was right in asking you to have a base line hiv test, mostly a rapid test, with result with in 15 to 20 mins and than give pep .however even if no rapid test is available pep is given at once depending upon the risk assessment. Your Dr. was the person to do the risk assessment based on kind of exposure and gave you pep of 2 drug combo. As for side effect of nausea and vomitting you got right meds and soon you will tolerate them. Thanks.
