I am 2 months 1 week pregnant and and also I am patient of hypothyroidism (before pregnancy ).i have been taking 37.5 mcg of thyronorm fir last 3 years but recently my gynae told me to go for ultra tsh test and it's level came out as 4.00 .my gynae told told me that it is too high for pregnancy so she reduced my dose to 12.5 mcg. Can you please suggest is it ok to reduce the dose for my growing twins and me.

No, You should not reduce the dose. Actually, you need to increase the dose to 50. Because cut off for tsh in 1 st trimester is 2.5. You have 4 so you need to increase to 50.

Hello. Generally the requirement of thyroid hormone in pregnancy increases by about 30%.its important that in first 12 weeks we keep tsh less than 2.5 so basically you need to increase the dose rather than decreasing it. Tsh and ft4 should be monitored every 4 weeks till 20 weeks than at least once between 28 to 32 weeks. In 2nd and 3rd trimester we aim to keep tsh less than 3.
