My mother started to taking ziprasidone it helps her in depression alot. Does it cause to increase blood sugar?

Dear lybrate-user, ziprasidone does not cause much increase in weight or carbohydrate craving or increase in blood sugar, unlike other antipsychotics. Nice to know that ziprasidone is helping her a lot.

Ziprasidone does not have significant effects of blood sugar and your mother can take the medication if it is has been prescribed by the psychiatrist. I believe that you mother's depression and schizophrenia will benefit, however you will need to have her be evaluated by the prescribing psychiatrist to make sure that she is having these medications correctly since it is good practice to follow up after taking a new medication.
