My wife aged 43 years is taking her depression treatment of Tab. PaxidepCR 12.5 mg OD and Tab. Tab. Sulpitac 50 mg since May 2007. She is also a patient of Schizophrenia and now she is stable with the treatment. Will she take this treatment for life long or other wise?

In my opinion, schizophrenia treatment is to be for long term. If the symptoms have become stable and manageable, the patient can reduce the doze of the medicines. Consult the psychiatrist for more on such treatment method.

As of today, treatment for some forms of schizophrenia is life long. Since 2007, she is suffering from schizophrenia. So in all respects, she may have to take the medicines for life. Some intelligent doctor like me said the same for cancer and AIDS. But research has caught up and now we have treatment for both cancers and AIDS. So in all likelihood, there will be a permanent cure for schizophrenia.
