My father had cardiac arrest after which he was treated with CPR. The entire process after cardiac arrest to hospital was for 5-10 mins and CPR lasted for 15-20 mins. He had seizures after CPR where his MRI result indicates damage to brain. He is in coma for last 1 week (exactly after the cardiac arrest). Though 2 days back he opened his eyes till 1/3rd of original but not at command. And he makes some facial expression while entering tube into his mouth or using suction pipe into his mouth. Please help me understand his chances of recovery. And how soon I can expect him to come out of coma? Appreciate your help!

This situation may be due to decreased oxygen supply to brain during the time of cardiac arrest. Brain will with stand few minutes without oxygen supply. If the time exceeds brain cells will go for damage. Sometimes it slowly recover depends upon his brain damage. He needs aggressive rehabilitation after weaning off from ventilator. Regards.
