My brother has been slightly scratched by a cat. The doctor gave him a tetanus toxoid injection and also asked to take 4 doses of rabies vaccine. I am planning to meet a neurologist if my brother can take the rabies vaccine. Actually my brother is an old case of infantile spasm patient, he had suffered from seizures right from his childhood. Currently he is on levipil 500 and tegrital 200 tablets, he is asthmatic too. I am worried if taking rabies vaccine can cause serious side effects in him. So my question is whether my brother can still go for rabies vaccination?

A child may get rabies if he or she is bitten or scratched by an animal with rabies. The virus can also be spread if a child has scratches or sores that are licked by an infected animal. Rabies can also spread if a child touches his or her mouth or eyes with hands that have saliva of an infected animal. Stage 1 rabies symptoms may include fever ,headache, loss of appetite, vomiting etc. Vaccines that give immunity to rabies must be given soon after contact with the rabies virus, if you see these symptoms in your baby they come for immediate consultation to get early vaccination. I need to study each of those medication report and detailed treatment history before I reach to any sound conclusion.
