Hi, my mother (52) has swollen feet and ankles since few days. The swelling in the evening hours is more as compared to in the morning after wakes up. We have been to the doctor and he prescribed few tests related to cbc, creatinine, tsh and vitamin d. All of these test were normal except that she has very low vitamin d levels. The doctor said the fluid retention because of vitamin d deficiency, Is the reason for swollen feet and ankles. He prescribed vitamin d supplements for this to cure. Can you please advise if the vitamin d deficiency causes fluid retention as the other tests show normal results and rule out the cause for problems related to kidney and heart. Appreciate your kind feedback. She is obese thanks.

Vitamin d deficiency can lead to a pain in bones or joints. May be your mother suffering from osteoarthritis because she already aged as well as obese. Obesity can lead her to complications to other organs including kidney and heart. She need to loose her weight. Better she do exercise or yoga kind of activity.
