His level of drinking sounds okay unless he gets drunk and makes a scene every weekend. The smoking is never advised at all. If you talk to him about your concerns without nagging him, it is possible to seek his cooperation and get him to give it up easily. If he comes from a family background of alcoholics and addicts, then he may develop an addiction over a period of time and succumb to heavy drinking and smoking. Unfortunately many wives, with good intentions no doubt, actually drive a man to further drinking and into addictions too by being overly concerned and nagging that the man then challenges the controlling, and defiantly finds a resort in abuse levels of indulgence. So be very cautious, and with an amicable approach discuss the matter rationally and come to a consensual decision. In fact two drinks a day for a man is even good. The smoking is definitely not healthy for him, for you and the family. Since he is not smoking too many cigarettes, he should be able to give it up without much ado.
