I have a question sir, last week I did fasting, pp,hba1c test in lab as a general check up, my fasting was 81 and pp was 113, but hba1c showed 6.8%. Then only to reconfirm next day I did random sugar test in lab after heavy lunch and it was 122. Then after three days again I did fasting and pp in lab, it was fasting 122, pp 145, then I purchased glucometer and I am checking every day on it, it shows fasting 107,108,120,120,124 and pp 165,155,180,181,170 like this. I am taking stain from last 1 year for high cholesterol and telma 40 for high bp but no medicines for sugar till now. I am worried sir am I diabetic? Can I save myself from diabetes. I have started exercise to lose weight. Or is this side effect of statin medicine im taking from last one year. I have read that statin increases blood sugar. Shall I stop taking that. My lopid profile is. Total cholesterol 200, ldl 109, hdl 46, triglycerides 226, vldl 46,

Mr Anant, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. I do get a feeling that I have already answered this question. Anyways I am again giving a detailed response. 1) Your glucose levels are quite good, do not show that you are diabetic. However, the average glucose (HbA1c% 6.8%) does point to a higher level. This may be happening due to a surge in the PP glucose levels. 2)Another important aspect is that PP levels mentioned clearly point to a pre-diabetic state. (141 to 199 mg/ 100 ml) 3) One of the major reasons for this is your excess weight. With a BMI of 35.81 kgs /Sq meter you are already in grade 2 obesity. There is an excess of almost 39 kgs. This leads to severe Insulin Resistance(IR) Your Ideal Body Weight (IBW) should be 71 kgs. Therefpre if weight is not reduced you are bound to become a diabetic in next few months to a year. Your lipids are by and large fine, except LDL which should be < 70 mg considering your weight. Also HDL is low. Statin should help in reducing LDL along with weight reduction. TGL are fine. Not to worry about that. Your major issue is excess weight. Thanks.

Your blood sugar levels are suggestive of prediabetic.Take diabetic diet, exercise regularly and monitor fasting and pp blood sugar regularly. If you dont have family history of diabetes then statins may be a cause but not for sure.
