Good morning. I just spit up some mucus with blood mixed in about a minute ago while I was coughing. The mucus is yellow and the blood is bright red.

Hello Lybrate-User, have you been having a cough lately? The yellow colour of mucus depicts bacterial infection. The blood may come due to various reasons including too much exertion due to harsh cough, capillary rupture, inflammatory process etc. If the blood was incidental and only came at once and in smaller quantity, there should not be much to worry about. If it was not a minor amount or you had further such episodes of mucus mixed with blood, you should get it well diagnosed. Get some antibiotics after consulting a nearby gp, drink plenty of fluids, eat well and take sufficient rest to recover.
