I have a query. Plss help what happens if a patient discontinue the intake of medicines for few days. That is - divalproex prolonged, donep m, sertraline. As the symptoms start appearing again. Will it affect the speed of recovery?

Dear Nandini, Divalpro may be used as anticonvulsant or as mood stabiliser. If you stop relapse will occur in few days. Donep m will make the dementia worse as days go by. May be memory loss or behavioural problems. Sertraline will take another 2-3 weeks to act if you stop in between. Please write the diagnosis, for whom prescribed, the dose, how long taken, the beneficial and side effects, etc in detail. Then you can get a proper answer.

Divalproex is prescribed for mood disorders or epilepsy, either way it should not be stopped without a doctors guidance. Donep m is prescibed for dementia, sertraline is prescribed for depression and anxiety, again need to be stopped with only doctors advise as it can affect recovery process or increase risk of relapse. Please contact for proper guidance to help with your recovery.
