I have a deviated nasal septum and taking montek lc for some time. I was planning to go for a surgery but then lockdown started. As lockdown keeps increasing and now govt are planning to go for pahse4. As after surgery, I have to take care of my nose and I think I should also avoid wearing mask for some time else it will put pressure on my nose and may again face this problem. So, should I go for the surgery or should I avoid it till this crisis is over?

Hello lybrate-user, at the outset, let me say that make sure your symptoms are due to deviated septum only and not anything else. If you suffer from allergic rhinitis, a septal surgery would be helpful only if you have a difficulty in nasal breathing or if you have persistent nasal blockage. In some cases, a surgery may be required to prevent future worsening of uiut pathology. So if you don't have these nagging symptoms at the moment, I feel you can definitely wait for the lockdown to get over as post surgery, a regular nasal cleaning would be required at the hospital. Good luck.

If you are symptomatic then go for surgery, a light mask will not make any problem.

Surgery for a deviated nasal septum is not an emergency. You can wait till the present crisis comes down. Please wear the face mask if you are going out of your house. It is not worth taking a chance.

Dear Lybrate user. You can avoid surgery in lockdown .deviated nasal septum (dns) is a very common condition. When the nasal septum is extremely tilted towards one side, it causes one nasal passage to be larger than the other. Depending on the severity of this difference, nasal blockage, reduced airflow, and breathing problems can occur. If the symptoms of the deviated septum are not problematic or severe, no particular treatment is needed. Surgery (septoplasty) may require in severe cases after the proper physical and radiological examination. You may consult an ent specialist at Lybrate for detail evaluation and management.

Dear lybrate-user, please do not hesitate from going towards surgery, everything will be done inside the nose with no external[outside] manipulation. And you can wear mask easily.
