My kid is 2 years old. From last 2 months, he was complaining about pain in anal area when he was trying to poop. His poop is normal yellow colored and sometimes it is black. We have consulted a doctor and are using these medicines: diarex tonic, mactase drops and metrogyl-m ointment. The outer skin around anus was red colored with two/three pimples, which is now cured. Using these medicines, he feels no pain when he is pooping, but he still complains about the pain in anal region at least once in a day. For the rest of the day is very active. I am afraid whether we are doing the right treatment because it has been more than two months of treatment now, and not sure whether the doctor has identified the underlying problem correctly. Kindly advise.

If stool color is black, it might be blood. Needs further evaluation.

Does your child pass soft stools once or twice a day, everyday? If the stools are hard and passing stools is less frequent than above mentioned. The child maybe suffering from constipation. Constipation causes pain in the peri-anal area and difficulty in passing stool. Stools maybe occasionally dark coloured, especially if being passed after 2-3 days. The hard stools may also cause injury to the peri-anal region. Leading to more pain the child has to be given high fibre diet (fresh fruits and vegetables, with special emphasis on green leafy vegetables, cucumber, cabbage, brinjal etc). Adequate water is also to be continued. Some other laxatives maybe required. The dose will depend on the child's weight.
