I had a doubt. Kindly please answer me if you know about it or have been through this medication. In ibd. Specifically I wnt to ask in case of ulcerative colitis. Suppose we use azathioprine for the patient who was steroid resistant previously and he is in remission since 4 years on azathioprine so after that we can withdraw azathioprine medicine right? And suppose after some years again the patient has relapse. So can azathioprine be given again? Or another treatment like biologics has to be given? I mean to ask that azathioprine can b started again or not? If not then why?

Remission for 4 years on azathioprine is very good Before stopping some doctors prefer doing a colonoscopy to confirm remission and then try stopping the medicine There may be chances of a relapse which may require steroids and azathioprine If a patient has been on remission only on azathioprine and has not required biologics in the past then requirement of biologics in future is less likely If one can have remission on azathioprine then no need of biologics unless there is intolerance or some contradictions to azathioprine
