I am 29 years old a mother of 2 month old baby. During pregnancy I have thyroid issues. I was taking 50 mcg of thyronorm. After delivery I stopped taking medicine. I checked my thyroid after one and half month of my delivery and my tsh was high with 11.35. I got checked my baby's thyroid in which his t3 is 242 which is mentioned as high. His t4 is 9.24 and tsh is 4. 500. His t3 is high or not? He is a boy. Please reply me asap which doctor should I consult. A pediatrician or an endocrinologist please reply please.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. Your TSH is definitely high, which means you have hypothyroidism and there is a need to start the treatment again. As regards th baby's thyroid hormone values, they are with in normal range. T3 value is not that significant. More important are T4 & TSH values, which are quite normal. How is the baby growing in terms of its responses and physical characteristics? If baby looks normal then no need to worry. However, you need to start treatment. Thanks

Dear lybrate-user, I understand that you had mild hypothyroidism during pregnancy and were on a small dose of thyronorm during pregnancy. After delivery when you stopped thyronorm, your tsh went up to 11.35. Was tpo antibody checked? If so you can consult me on telemedicine with the report. Regarding your child, you need to know that the normal range for new born is different from that for adults. I find that his tsh and t4 are quite normal you do not have to worry about the child so long as he is gaining normal amounts of weight and is active. Further t3 values are less reliable than t4 and tsh so do not worry about your child .are you taking thyronorm now?
