Dear lybrate-user, in people with high uric acid levels and joint pain due to gout starting medication to lower uric acid can paradoxically cause an exacerbation of joint pain for short time. This can be managed with anti-inflammatory drugs for a few days. If you modify your diet and avoid nuts, and red meat your uric acid levels will start coming down. If your uric acid levels remain normal with just dietary management you may not need febuget long-term regards
