50% success rate with mtp pills. Unsuccessful cases keep waiting for bleeding to stop for a month and land up in hospitals as emergency case of septic abortion and loss of blood. Mtp pills have other side effects. There's a suspense of 10 days after taking the dose. Hemorrhage like condition can occur at home causing a scare to family. Why not opt for simple procedures of surgical abortion? Mtp pills were launched by government less than 20 years ago so that women weren't trapped by quacks in rural areas. It's backfired. Mtp pills cannot be sold without a prescription. In rural areas kids as old as 10 years are selling abortion pills along with emergency contraceptives as if these medicines carry no side effects. If given under supervision of a doctor after proper counseling bleeding woman can approach her doctor for evacuation of pieces which may not be detected by ultrasound.
