Vitiligo is a autoimmune disease in which bodys imuno system mistakenly attacks pigment producing cells in the body.in case of progressive vitiligo (when the disease process is active and new lesions are developing then oral steroid like tab deflazacort is used to halt the progresion of the disease and for that steroid is usually used for 2 to 3 months at tapering doses. To counteract the side effect of daflazacort e.g gastric upset pantoprazole (like pantop) is used. Melanocyl (methoxypsoralen) and tacrolimus are the effective modalities of treatment for vitiligo depending upon the type, site and extent of involvement of vitiligo.
