Hello lybrate-user normally for menses to occur both estrogen+progesterone are necessary. These are produced from ovaries when eggs are adequate in number. As age advances, the egg count decreases, causing a decline in these hormones. Ultimately woman ends up in menopause when the eggs are exhausted completely. Ocp contain these hormones (estrogen+progesterone), so externally giving them ensures regular menstruation. But they should be used in caution as there are side effects to these pills esp after the age of 35-40 yrs. So, they should be taken only under proper guidance and should not be taken only to get periods after 40 yrs. And regarding meperate, it only contains progesterone component. You can only get period with meperate if you have adequate estrogen in the body, otherwise you will not get (like in menopause). So, bottom-line is menopause is a natural phenomenon occuring. If you experience any symtpoms associated with menopause, consult a gynaec and take proper medication.

Menopause cannot be checked by taking meprate or ocp's .if you continue taking ocp's then you can continue having withdrawal bleeding. If you've had your menopause then instead of taking ocp's it's better to take hormone replacement therapy. Prior to taking hormonal replacement therapy you have to undergo some tests.
