Lybrate user, the symptoms you have mentioned are quite common in patients who are being treated for schizophrenia. If the treatment is discontinued because of these kind of side effects, the impact of this disease will be so severe that will negatively affect his and your life as well. You have not mentioned how long he has been on this treatment. If it is started only recently (just before a month), there is nothing to worry. It will take a few months to get well-adjusted with these meds. If not, pls consult your doc. for a change in treatment. Cognitive behaviour therapy is a psychotherapy technique which has been widely used for a no. of psychological problems. Its principle is that 'HOW WE THINK ABOUT A SITUATION AFFECTS HOW WE FEEL AND HOW WE BEHAVE' . In other words 'people are not disturbed by the situations, but by the meaning they attach to that situation'. And, emotions are difficult to change directly. so CBT targets emotions by changing thoughts and behaviors that are contributing to the distressing emotions. In your husband's case, medicines are most important than any other form of treatment, including cognitive behavior therapy. CBT can help persons with schizophrenia only to a small extent, such as modifying some kind of problem behaviors. Keeping him engaged with some interesting physical activities can help overcome his sleepiness and dullness.

Cognitive behavior therapy is a widely used therapy currently in treating a variety of concerns and mental disorders. Cbt is most famously used for depression, anxiety, stress etc. It is also used for schizophrenia, but I would recommend that along with cbt medication is also required. Cbt is a theory that proposes that psychological disturbances are caused by dysfunctional or maladaptive thoughts leading to maladaptive actions and emotions. Cbt is basically used in identifying and treating these dysfunctional thoughts and its patterns and dealing with them through disputing them and coming up with alternative more functional thoughts leading to more functional actions and emotions.
