Hello. Mirena is a hormonal (progestin) iud. Some breast cancers are hormone sensitive and hence mirena is not advised for patients suffering from or at risk of developing breast cancer. However, there is no definite evidence at present that mirena increases the risk of breast cancers, although it is suggested to decrease risk of endometrial cancer. If you are still concerned, you may opt for a non-hormonal iud. Pls discuss with your doctor regarding differences in efficacy of the two. Thanks.
