My mother (55 years) is diabetic and has chronic liver disease. She has been suffering from severe right knee pain for almost 2.5 months. She was admitted to cmri hospital with low hemoglobin count as well and upon diagnosis it was found to be septic arthritis. Arthroscopic lavage of the knee was done and 5 units of blood was given. Upon her discharge the pain is almost nil during the day but very bad in midnight. The antibiotic linezolid 600 she was taking has been stopped after 7 days as per doctor's instructions. Please suggest what should we do, if we should consult the doctor again or give the antibiotic for another few weeks as she is unable to sleep properly in night.

Hello, as she has septic arthritis she'll recieve antibiotics for long duration. Do not stop medication without doctors advice. Antibiotics might change as per the culture sensitivity report of the knee aspirate. Keep good nutrition. Pain might not settle completely as even if infection is cured damaged cartilage will give secondary arthritis will will pain. Along with orthopaedician you can also meed pain specialist who might numb the pain carrying nerve of knee and she'll have pain relief after that. I hope that helps.
