My daughter 15 years started coughing since 20th april 2021 for which we gave her antibiotics- cepodem 200 & anti-allergic (cetrizine) for 7 days along with cough syrup, nebulizer (with duolin & budecort) & steam. Meanwhile she felt loss of smell. Now, she has no cough which disappeared long before but even after 18 days she has not regained her loss of smell. Otherwise she is fully okay, has no cough & have never developed fever. What medication we should start to regain her smell. Do we need to keep her in isolation which we are doing so far.

No need to worry, just keep hydrating and take proper diet, she will regain her smell soon, get nasal saline drop, 2 drop saline in nose thrice a day. Many patient regain their smell likely after 2 month, but they do regain. Thank you.

Dear Ms. lybrate-user, I suppose you had your daughter tested for covid 19 and therefore you have her in isolation. If she has recovered from her symptoms and she has been in isolation for more than 14 days, she can stop being in further isolation. Loss of sense of smell will remain for quite some time and will resolve on its own, so she does not further need isolation because of it. Although there is no need for any medication for loss of smell, if you are interested any vitamin b-complex medication, esp containing vitamin b12 may be helpful. Best wishes.
