Hello doctor. Am 40 years old. I had covid by april and mid of june I started having hair fall. Now ended in 50%hairloss. Dailyits shedding very badly. I feel like shaving my hair. I am very stressed. I use to have voluminous healthy hair. Which I felt as a treasure. Now I almost lost it. Am unable to concentrate in anything. I went to a dermatologist they have given me sprays, collagen supplements, and some tablets like follihair. They its been one week. Not even a minute change. When I pinged the centre they say I need to wait for 3 months to control. So till that I will loose everything and walk bald. Please please. Help me. I feel very much stressed and ashamed to go out. Rather I feel to shave my hair and stay home. That would b a good choice than watching the daily sheds and crying daily. Some one here please help.

Hello hope you are keeping safe 1) I understand your concern, please be aware that any hairfall less than 100 strands per day is normal and you shouldn't be worried as it might just be related to temporary - hormonal imbalance - genetic history of balding - stress - dietary habits and changes - a weight loss routine - lifestyle. - recent infection / fever - recent change of surrounding/ change of water - pollution - excessive exposure to sunlight 2) you can follow some simple steps - if you have dandruff, you can follow up for it's treatment as dandruff by itself can cause considerable hair loss - oil massage your scalp daily for 15 minutes to increase the blood flow to the follicles to promote hair growth - avoid using hot iron, curlers or straighteners on hair as it changes texture and causes breakage of hair.- avoid damp hair combing - avoid chemical therapy to hair - have food rich in iron, vit d and folic acid.- use lukewarm water for hair wash and not very hot water. 3) even after you follow these you still find you hair loss more than 100 strands per day, do the following investigations - vit d levels - hb levels - serum iron profile - thyroid levels - calcium levels these levels are directly linked up to hair fall and therefore the deficiency needs to be corrected. 4) you use some hair supplements like biotin capsules, hair serums that promote hair growth, multivatimin capsules. 4) stress is a main contributing factor, so try to relax yourself more. Kindly revert back for a detailed prescription and guidance thank you and take care.

Hairfall is not due to one single cause. There are many conditions which can cause extreme hair loss and thinning of hair on the scalp. So first and foremost we have to find the cause of hair fall with the help of detailed history and examination. Some of the common causes maybe nutritional deficiency, hormonal causes like androgenic alopecia also called pattern baldness, hypothyroidism, telogeun effluvium etc. Unless we find and treat the cause there is no point in giving non specific treatment. Also one should refrain from home remedies as it does not give any relief from hairfall. Oil and shampoos do not have any effect on hair growth as they are not absorbed in the skin. Please contact me using online consultation for proper examination diagnosis and treatment.
