My daughter 15 years old have an intermittent nasal blockage since 2 months and have been in touch with an ent doctor. Nasal endoscopy was performed and s shaped septum was found with curvature. She had taken duonase spray, oxyspray, fluticasone spray, bilasure m for 14 days along with azithral during this period. When she is on medication her problems are little relived and after stopping medication she again starts facing same problem - stuffy nose, blocked nose, sticky discharge always coming in small qty. The problem we see is more when she sleeps but is seen through the day. Will jal neti help in this case? Performed once jal neti but felt pain in nasal area afterwards, so we stopped. What is your advice?

1. Do saline gargles daily (preferably twice). 2. Whenever possible do steam inhalation also. 3. Cover your nose and mouth with hanky for at least 30 sec when you go in dusty areas also when you go in and out of AC. As our nose is the most sensitive part of our body, When there is temperature difference between two rooms or inside n outside, then if we not protect our nose, it gets affected. 4. Drink Hot Liquids --Hot liquids relieve nasal congestion, prevent dehydration, and soothe the uncomfortably inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat. 5. Sleep With an Extra Pillow Under Your Head-- Elevating your head will help relieve congested nasal passages. If the angle is too awkward, try placing the pillows between the mattress and the box springs to create a more gradual slope. 6. Treat That Stuffy Nose With Warm Salt Water-- Salt-water rinsing helps break nasal congestion, while also removing virus particles and bacteria from your nose. 7. Blow Your Nose Often (and the Right Way)-- It's important to blow your nose regularly when you have a cold rather than sniffling mucus back into your head. But when you blow hard, pressure can carry germ-carrying phlegm back into your ear passages, causing earache. The best way to blow your nose: Press a finger over one nostril while you blow gently to clear the other. Homeopathic treatment has very encouraging results. Consult online for details.

Dear lybrate-user, just relax. Basically your daughter has a purely surgical problem. As long as her dns is not surgically corrected she will keep on having nasal complaints. Please therefore consult a good ent specialist as soon as possible.

It is advisable to avoid jal neti as it can introduce infections into the deeper areas of the nose. Since the septal curvature has already been detected and there is a recurrent problem, it is advisable to have a septoplasty surgery for permanent treatment. It is quite safe and effective treatment and there won't be much of a need for continuous medications in future.

Ma'am does your daughter snore at night?. Primary cause for allergic rhino sinusitis in children is mostly enlarged adenoids. If that isn't the case then the deviated septum might be causing the obstruction. Since it's been only 2 months that you are faced with such situations. This can be taken care of by meds alone. please consult your ent doctor. Sometime it takes a little time for the condition to settle .don't panic.
