Dear lybrate-user. Sruthi and her husband should go to the psychiatrist and discuss the pros and cons of becoming pregnant. It should be a planned pregnancy with or without qutipin. Stopping quetiapine depends on how severe and how frequent were episodes of bipolar disorder. Sruthi's support systems and her husband's acceptance of her bipolar disorder also need to be considered.

Quetipaine belongs to category c risk in pregnancy. Pregnancy category c: risk summary: there are no adequate and well-controlled studies of quetiapine use in pregnant women. In limited published literature, there were no major malformations associated with quetiapine exposure during pregnancy. Untreated mood disorder can cause low birth baby as well. So you need know the risk-benefits and discuss with your treating psychiatrist & obstetrician and then make a decision. Good luck.

Hello, you need to be very careful about risk of recurrence of symptoms in pregnancy as it is a high risk state for patients with bipolar disorder. Quitipin 50 mg per day is too low a dose. You should consult online or consult with your psychiatrist about pregnancy.
