Hi lybrate-user, none of the medicines are approved as anti-craving drug for cannabis. This is more of a hit and trial mode to try naltrexone as deterrent or anti craving measure for cannabis. If it is tried alone, there are less than ~10% chance of getting better over it, though the odds goes higher if it is augmented with psychological intervention especially focusing on motivation enhancement, ways to tackle craving and relapse prevention which is the currently followed worldwide. It's effect lasts for ~3 months. I wish he get well soon.

This is what you do: make a list. You are going to write down every reason you want to quit and every reason causing relapse. You are going to write down a solution next to every reason casuing you to relapse. Example below. You are going to delete every dealers number off your phone and cloud back-up. You are going to inform all your smoking buddies that you will be quitting and will not be able to meet up for a few months. You are going to roll a fat joint, sit down, hold it in front of you and say ?this is the very last joint I will ever smoke! ? you are going to throw away the rest of your stash, bong, rolling papers, oils etc. All of it. Every single thing. Light up. Savour it. Enjoy. Go to bed. Its day 1 of the new you. This is the beginning of the end of your addiction. Congrats you are well on your way to becoming weed free. The list. Reasons to quit: i'm not maximising my potential. I'm wasting money. The addiction is dictating my life. I have no other interests or hobbies. I want to be healthy. Etc. Cause of relapse and solutions: can not fall asleep or stay asleep- get sleeping pills. Boredom- signed up for rock climbing classes, pottery class, swimming lessons, yoga, gym, whatever. All my friends smoke-done, not seeing them for a while. Going to be more sociable with non smokers. Etc. Always remember that withdrawal is temporary. See my answer on ?how long until I feel better after quitting weed? for a time line you can expect to get over these withdrawal symptoms. Just keep in mind you will be a new person in a months time. Best of luck to you!
